The two although they share the same table, on December 25, are extremely different, we can almost consider them opposite, both in shape and in the filling and taste.

The pandoro as we know and love it today, was born more than a hundred years ago in Verona, from the idea of a famous confectioner Domenico Melegatti, who, proud of his discovery and the new freshly baked cake, decided to patent the recipe on October 14, 1894 at the Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Trade of the Kingdom of Italy and obtained the Certificate of Industrial Privative for the name, star shape and recipe.

The original recipe is therefore attributed to Melegatti, but the dessert has much older origins, from what Pliny the Elder tells us, it seems that it was already widespread in Ancient Rome in the second century AD, where a certain Vergilius Stefanus Senex, who we can define a pastry chef ante litteram, creates a sweet bread made with flour, butter and oil.

While the name with which we know it today seems to derive from the custom of the aristocratic Venice of 1200, where in the houses of the nobles it was customary to serve a cake covered with gold leaf of conical shape, known as the “Pan de oro”. For the star shape, instead, it seems to be inspired by the “Nadalin” typical Veronese traditional dessert prepared for Christmas with ingredients similar to those used today.

[203,202

0":"post-896","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_cat-prodotti-da-forno-en","7":"product_cat-sweets-and-biscuits","9":"first","10":"outofstock","11":"taxable","12":"shipping-taxable","13":"purchasable","14":"product-type-simple
["GET
